Lula Starring Strawberry Shortcake And The Gang!

17 Apr

I picked up the latest issue of Lula at the Union Square location of Barnes and Noble the other day (the UK magazine is not cheap at $15.99…I love gift cards!) and was once again fascinated, as always, by the beautiful photography and unique subject ideas.

It’s Lula’s fifth birthday, so they wanted to celebrate one of their first fashion icons, Strawberry Shortcake. They actually interviewed the creator of Strawberry Shortcake, Muriel Fahrion. It’s a really great read and I found it surprising that if somebody tried to commsion her to do a Strawberry Shortcake drawing, she wouldn’t be allowed to (Shortcake is owned by American Greetings). Kirsten Dunst does a great job connecting with the artist.

Coincidentally, fashion writer Tim Blanks worked on Strawberry Shortcake too! The idea was then born to ask designers during Paris fashion week to recreate the original characters’ costumes. There are seven limited edition covers. The above cover is of Lemon Meringue  but I want to keep the rest of the covers a secret so you can discover the wonderful world of Lula yourselves!
