Sunglass Hut

29 Apr

Just when I thought my sunglasses obsession was simmering down, I saw these beauties ( see above) on the Alice + Olivia website. They don’t make sunglasses as a company, so WHO makes them? I emailed them to find out but while I’m waiting for an answer, here are the top 5 sunglasses that should be in every RGRS’ arsenal:

The Classic Black Round Pair:

You can invest in this type but I think they are more fun when found spontaneously at a street vendor or at a flea market. I’ve acquired numerous pairs like this throughout the years. Collect them in not just black but in white, red, tortoise…anything goes!

The Cat Eye:

I’m glad this style recently made a revival. Although you can find many great cat eyes, Tom Ford has by far perfected it by making the frame more modern. The “Nico” gets my vote for the sexiest style done in years.

The Eclectic High-Fashion Pair:

Whether it’s a kooky pair of Jeremy Scotts or a Prada Baroque frame, we all need a little madness in our life. You should feel a slight buzz when putting them on. The Balenciagas below are an amazing option.

Balenciaga Purple/Orange Sunglasses, $395, Balenciaga.com

The Lolitas:

They may seem juvenile to some but are definitely essential for road trips, being flirty and coy, sipping on Coca-Colas at the beach or all of the above.

Lolita Cute Heart Sunglasses, $12 each, Quixotic.com

Aviators:

These are timeless and every fashion icon seems to own the classic Ray-Ban version.

The 2011 RGRS Gift Guide: Part 1

3 Dec

It’s that time of the year again and what better way to kick off the season than to have an easy gift guide that will have everyone saying, “Wow, she/he really surprised me with that (fill in fun gift here)?!

This is not just any old guide though. I’ve actually been told that I give the best gifts. I think part of it has to do with that fact that I love shopping vicariously through other people but may I add that being a great listener as well as knowing where to source gifts that have a touch of  personality really helps too!

These guides are not by “Brother”, “Girlfriend”, “Mom”, etc. I did do them by personality but not just any run-of-the-mill type. Chances are if you read this site often, you actually know at least one of these types very well. Tonight features our first personality type, “The Label Whore.”

Yup, no explanation necessary, although I will proceed. She/he only wears the latest and greatest. Yes, even the nail polish is Chanel. Despite what people may think, this is actually a tough type to buy for. Just when you think you have them down, they are all sick of Balenciaga and onto Proenza……
